At an altitude of 1600m, on a high sunny plateau above the Maurienne Valley and at the foot of the Col de la Croix de Fer surrounded by amazing peaks that include the 3500m Aiguilles d’Arves and L’Etendard Glacier sits the beautiful and authentic ski resort of St Sorlin d’Arves, full of traditional Savoyard charm.
Complete with wood clad farmhouses, narrow streets, Baroque Church, quaint shops and attractive chalets, St Sorlin d’Arves is located near the Franco – Italian border in the Maurienne Valley, home to the huge 310km Sybelles network, the 4th largest ski domain in France. From St Sorlin d’Arves you have easy access into the gigantic Les Sybelles ski domain, which comes complete with the “Famille Plus” award thanks to its superb care and attention and the great facilities it provides for children.
Les Sybelles itself is made up of 6 villages that include the resorts of Le Corbier, La Toussuire, St Jean d’Arves, Les Bottieres and St Colomban des Villards. With skiing suited to all standards, snowboarders have the choice of two terrain parks that includes thirty modules.
Thanks to Val Thorens and the 3 Valleys being just to the North, the Sybelles villages enjoy frequent heavy snowfalls ensuring long ski seasons with opening from 21st December and not closing until around the 17th April. Locally, St Sorlin d’Arves boasts 120km of its own slopes via 34 pistes with the nursery slopes right by the village, but it is the access to the entire 310km of pistes in the Sybelles ski area that make it so attractive.
Considered by some journalists to be the most beautiful ski area in France. For the connections across the domain locals and visitors will find superb well groomed and well signposted intermediate cruising terrain predominantly serviced by modern high speed chairlifts. The relatively quiet pistes of Sybelles are made up of 25 green, 56 blue, 34 red and 9 black, while for those seeking off piste the potential is obvious with qualified local guides helping to find the best spots.
With a recent €35 million investment programe improving both the infrastructure and slopes across the Sybelles ski area, the future holds incredibly exciting times for St Sorlin d’Arves, with the link connecting the Sybelles ski area to the planned Alpe d’Huez – Les Deux Alpes ski area coming from the village, creating the world’s largest ski domain with 800km of skiing on your doorstep in 2025.
